Ascension of Jesus ChristThe Transfiguration of Jesus Christ Beatitudes Sermon on the Mount of Jesus Christ Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God
Thanks for your message above. There is so much I want to tell you, but I don't want to page a 3-page long letter. I will try to give you a capsule version.

1. Maybe there was a reason I posted my message on Valentine's Day, although I posted it the day of or day after the original post.

2. You are an inspiration to me with the way you reached out to these two drug addicts. At my mother's funeral, I delivered a eulogy before the mass began. I said, if you asked my mother what was her most significant contribution, she would have said unhesitantly "my children."

But the priest/pastor who gave the homily said that when her soul makes it way to heaven, God will look over her life on earth. And for God, it may be most significant that she left ice water and cups out for the garbage men without failing week after week, for 8 years -- until a new private company took over and provided the crews with water breaks and ice water.

Faith and love guided you to care for two drug addicts that others had rejected. One or both of them may turn out to be angels who look like humans sent to earth to see if anyone would care if they live or die.

3. I read the inscriptions on the Black Knight statue from your picture web page. In coming weeks, maybe you can share what inspired you. Whatever your friend said, you maid a trip all the way to Beleramine just to see the statue for yourself? It is an amazing coincidence that statue was erected on your birthday.

4. Yesterday when I was taking groceries out of the trunk, a little shiny metal tag fell off the key chain. I bent down to pick it up, and it was shiny on one side, but on the other side it had my mother's name "Roma" (she used to say the city in Italy was named after her!) and a small 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch drawing of a young girl being held in the arms of a guardian angel.

I vaguely can recall putting that charm or medal on my mother's key set -- the keys to her car, but I can't recall when. In any event, I thought the metal tab had broken off, but it had not. In theory I could reattach it to the key chain, but there is no open link, which I could use to reinsert the charm and then close it with pliers.

I don't know what all this means. Am I imagining things and trying to pretend this is a message from my mother's soul? Is it related to the postings of the last couple of days? Did the thing just fall off, and I am getting spooked about it?

I can take a picture of the charm and post it to my website over the weekend so you can see it if you like.

I will sign off here, but there is more I would like to discuss with you. I appreciate your recognizing the maturity in my spiritual search. I just finished reading Father James Martin's book BECOMING YOUR TRUE SELF, and I found I had instinctively done on my own without ever hearing about "the true self" many of the recommendations he and Merton offer for self-discovery.
